The Impact of Socioeconomic Status on Student Success

This workshop will be facilitated by Laura Clark, College Success Coach at Paul D Camp Community College. All faculty and staff will benefit from this open discussion of the relationship between poverty and education attainment.  The workshop and limited supply of books are sponsored by the Northern Virginia Regional Center for Teaching Excellence.

  • Opening Session: Background information on studies related to socioeconomic status and its impact on learning and student success. Social class and academia from a faculty perspective.
  • Working Lunch: Roundtable discussions
  • Breakout Sessions: What faculty and staff can do to improve student success when working with students from socioeconomically-disadvantaged backgrounds.
